Pirates showing interest in Stephen Drew

Pirates have shown interest Stephen Drew

Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Pirates have shown interest in Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen DrewDrew, 29, has only played in 15 games this season after recovering from an ankle injury that kept him out for nearly 11 months.  As stated in a previous blog post (Why Arizona is looking to trade Justin Upton) Ken Kendrick has publicly called out some of his players, Drew being one of them.

It’s still unclear whether the Diamondbacks will trade right fielder Justin Upton. But shortstop Stephen Drew appears to be generating enough attention to get moved.

The Pirates, Red Sox and Tigers are among the teams interested in Drew, according to major-league sources.

A former first round pick in 2004, Drew would be a clear upgrade offensively at shortstop.

The Pirates’ .515 OPS at short is the worst in the majors.

Now, just because the Pirates haven’t been in conversations with the Diamondbacks regarding Drew, doesn’t mean they’re not interested.  The next 12 days should be interesting.
